Um. Yeah. "Hugging." That's the killer app for teledildonics.

That's almost too sad to even bear thinking about.

I think a lot of people suffer from a lack of affectionate physical contact. I know I do. Electronics aren't going to help.

And while I know this is designed for kids, I think it would actually make a person more depressed to receive an electronic "hug" than none at all, a reminder of just how sparse and lonely one's life has become. It makes me think of this toy they were marketing in Borders a few years ago, this little beanbag with a smiling face that when you squeezed it, it would say, "I love you." The thought of some lonely person squeezing one of those in order to hear the words "I love you" just broke my heart. I even wrote an LJ entry about it. (God, it's strange to look back at my entries from a few years ago. My voice, concerns, attitude, and outlook are all so different.)

Hmmm... I've never really thought of those speaking teddy bears and stuff like that. But yeah, I see your point -- even when meant as fun, it would be more pleasant to give the gift of actually saying those words. It does seem ridiculous in some ways :(

Do you meditate regularly now? If so, what changed? I still find it hard to keep up. I get into the swing of it sometimes, and really enjoy it, but other times, I just get lazy, I guess :(

I just now saw your comment notification in my Inbox, and it reminded me that I hadn't responded to you yet :)

Yes, I still meditate regularly. Actually, more regularly than ever before. I tried to start sitting twice a day, but that never lasted for more than a handful of days. But I sit once a day every day, and miss a day maybe three times a month on average now. I sometimes miss sitting on purpose, because it's like hitting a "Reset" button once a week or so. But in general, I really notice if I haven't sat. Sometimes it seems like nothing is really happening on the cushion, but I really notice the effect of it in how I function later on. There's a Balinese gamelan ensemble I play in on Mondays, and I try to sit before I go. I notice a dramatic difference in my playing and coordination if I don't sit beforehand.
